Rural Transformation Program Director

Jonathan Barclay

Jonathan brings extensive experience in public health, analytics, and health workforce development to the Rural Health Transformation Program at IPHCA. Most recently he led research, evaluation, and analytics at Jump IN for Healthy Kids, a community initiative to reduce and prevent childhood obesity in central Indiana. In 2023-25, Jump IN published the region’s inaugural reports estimating population childhood obesity trends.

During a decade on the leadership team of the Indiana Area Health Education Centers Program (AHEC), Jonathan worked with health care, education, and non-profit leaders in communities across Indiana on capacity-building, program development, evaluation, and strategic planning projects to increase recruitment, training, and retention of primary care clinicians in medically underserved communities. He has also served as a HRSA grant reviewer.

With a master’s degree in English from IU Bloomington, has leveraged communications with broad experience developing digital learning tools to lead medical education technology, continuing medical education, and departmental operations at the IU School of Medicine. He is proud to have served with inspiring colleagues as past presidentΒ of the Indiana Public Health Association and at the National AHEC Organization, the Indiana Diabetes Advisory Council, and the Indiana Joint Asthma Coalition, where he served as chair of the health provider committee.
