National Addiction Professionals Day

… celebrated on September 20, 2023, as part of National Recovery Month.

With overdose rates reaching the highest numbers on record in the past couple of years, we need to remember to pause on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, to celebrate vital players of the health system and continuum of care: addiction professionals.

Started by NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals in 1992, the day was established to commemorate the hard work that addiction professionals do on a daily basis. Help us make this year the biggest celebration yet by spreading the word that addiction professionals are amazing!

You can help us celebrate the powerful work of addiction professionals by hosting your own event or by promoting this important day on your own communications and marketing platforms! Download the 2023 Addiction Professionals Day Outreach Toolkit for information about this national day of recognition that you can include in newsletters or other mailings, as well as sample social media posts and sharable graphics.

“We welcome everyone to join us on September 20, or hold their own local event, to celebrate the powerful work that addiction services professionals do. As each life is recovered, that helps the whole family and eventually translates into the recovery of a community,” said Cynthia Moreno Tuohy, BSW, NCAC II, CDC III, SAP, NAADAC Executive Director.

To celebrate the day, NAADAC will also announce its 2023 NAADAC Award winners at the NAADAC 2023 Annual Conference  in Denver, CO, on October 6 – 12, 2023. These dedicated addiction professionals and organizations will also be honored in NAADAC’s digital magazine, Advances in Addiction & Recovery.

National Addiction Professionals Day is held annually in September as a part of National Recovery Month, which aims to increase awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders and celebrate people in recovery.
