The HRSA UDS Sealant Measure: 2021 Annual Update
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, the number of children receiving sealants in health centers decreased from almost 57% in 2019 to 48.68% in 2020. Thousands of children ages 6-9 did not receive preventive sealants, putting their molars at risk for cavities and a life-long cycle of dental treatment. This year’s presentation will refocus efforts to deliver this important preventive intervention in our “new normal” environment. The presentation will include BPHC’s Dental Officer, Dr. Folasayo Adunola providing a HRSA update, a review of data collection for the measure, and successful strategies to increase the percentage of children receiving sealants including a refresher on glass ionomer sealant placement technique to minimize aerosol generation. Vista Community Clinic, an FQHC, will also discuss how they have improved their UDS Sealants Measure through their work in the NNOHA Sealant Learning Collaboratives.
