Purpose of workshop: To provide an overview of the framework guiding behavioral health integration and explore organizational opportunities to expand practice along the continuum
Setting the stage with the key learning objectives:
- Define integrated healthcare
- Identify characteristics of the six levels of integrated healthcare along a continuum
- Engage in activity to assess the current level of integration and explore strategies to expand the practice
Integrated behavioral healthcare involves a whole-person, patient-centered approach to healthcare that seeks to address the complex factors contributing to the exacerbation of our consumers’ symptoms. The need for behavioral health and substance use treatment is extensive requiring further expansion of resources to help mitigate the impacts this will have on our consumer’s overall health, their families, and the larger community. Understanding the differences between coordinated, co-located, and integrated systems of care will provide a framework for launching organizational change. Exploration of the six levels of collaboration will guide health centers in their efforts to progress and achieve status as a patient-centered medical home reaching our underserved populations.
