Center for Persons with Disabilities Presentation Series
The Center for Persons with Disabilities Presentation Series, a series of professional development programs, is aimed at building awareness of the barriers to equitable oral health for individuals with disabilities and developing competency to provide oral health care to this vulnerable population.
The series is open to dentists and their support personnel at no charge. Dentists completing 18 or more of the courses within a three-year period will receive a certificate of completion from Penn Dental Medicine as a Disabilities Dentistry Clinician Expert.
This series is made possible through the support of Delta Dental.
This presentation will outline the methods by which the dental practitioner can comply with the ADA and manifest modifications of policies, facilitate communication, and ensure access to the entire patient population.
- Understand the requirements to make reasonable modifications (or changes) to policies, practices, and procedures to provide equal access to facilities and services to persons with disabilities
- Understand the device, method, or service to ensure that communication with patients with hearing, vision, and speech disabilities are as effective as communication with other patients
- Understand the mechanisms to ensure that their facilities are accessible to people with disabilities
