Emergency Management Conference Call
On 12/9/09 at 10:00 a.m. IPHCA will host a conference call regarding recently conducted Table Top Exercises (TTX) concerning Medical Surge and Mass Fatality exercises. The conference call will focus on how health centers were involved, the lessons learned and possible improvements based on the experiences from the exercises. The presentations are available below.

May 14, 2009: Legal Services Are Available To Disaster Applicants
Free legal advice and referrals are available for anyone affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from March 8-14. To be eligible for the legal assistance, individuals must live in one of the 16 counties designated for FEMA Individual Assistance programs, and need legal assistance as a direct result of the severe storms and flooding. The 16 counties covered by the declaration are: Allen, Carroll, Daviess, DeKalb, Fulton, Jasper, Kosciusko, Lake, Lawrence, LaPorte, Marshall, Noble, Pulaski, St. Joseph, White and Whitley. May 11, 2009: Over $1.2 Million Approved In First Two Weeks
Two weeks after President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for Indiana,
more than $1.2 Million in disaster assistance grants and loans have been

residents have applied for disaster assistance in the 13 designated Indiana

March 17, 2009: Folk Remedies Identified as Potential Sources of Lead and Arsenic
Two digestive aids commonly used by children of Burmese refugees in Fort Wayne have tested high for lead
and arsenic. Local, state and federal health officials are now urging people to avoid using these folk medicines.

Large portions of Central Indiana have been coping with flood water from the recent rainstorms. The Indiana State Department of Health released an article,“Hoosiers Reminded Of Health Risks Associated With Flooding",
that quoted State Health Commissioner, Dr. Judy Monroe, as saying, “small cuts or scratches on the skin can make someone more susceptible to diseases like tetanus, E. coli, or other pathogens.” Click here for more from the current issue.
