About Indiana Primary Health Care Association About Community Health Centers Find a Community Health Center in Indiana
Welcome to the Indiana Primary Health Care Association

Today, thousands of Indiana citizens will need primary health care but won't be able to get it. They will suffer, and some may even die early due to lack of access to care. More than 700,000 Hoosiers are considered medically disenfranchised. The Indiana Primary Health Care Association (IPHCA) works to ensure that all Hoosiers have a health care home - such as a Community Health Center (CHC) - where they receive quality care regardless of economic status, background, or location.

› IPHCA's MISSION: To champion the development and delivery of accessible, community-driven quality health care.

› IPHCA's VISION: A barrier-free, high quality health care system that's Affordable AvailableAccessible • Appropriate •  Acceptable

Community Health Centers Struggle to Meet Demand from Poor and Uninsured Patients
(1/24/12)

Running out of insulin to control his diabetes, Linn Paulley tried to make a doctor’s appointment at Family Health Centers-Portland, a low-cost clinic serving the poor and uninsured in western Louisville.

But there were so many uninsured patients like him that he said he had to wait three months to get in — and in the meantime went about eight weeks without insulin, had to go to the emergency room twice and landed in the hospital overnight when his blood sugar spiked out of control.
