This forum is designed as an outreach opportunity for our members to share their stories with our state representatives.  Starting at 9:30 with breakfast, Lou Belch will provide a legislative update on bills that are important to CHCs. We will be inviting a legislator to address our group during the lunch hour. Please set up a face to face meeting with your legislators during the break in programming from 10 - 11:30 am or after lunch. To make sure your story is heard by your representative, consider calling ahead and setting up an appointment. If you are not able to obtain a meeting with your legislator, stop by to chat with their staffer or even their interns. This is your chance to let your elected representative know about the many patients you serve in your local communities. The Senate Health and Provider Services committee will likely convene at 10 am and go to about noon (depending on the agenda). Lunch will be served at noon (please return to the Hilton if you don’t already have meetings scheduled for that time) and we will have a state legislator as a guest speaker (TBD). Following that, you will have time to return to the State House for any afternoon meetings with legislators. The House Public Health Committee will likely convene at 3:30 pm. Your attendance at either of the committee meetings is optional and may be a time filler if you do not have back-to-back meetings with legislators scheduled.

Below you will find a spreadsheet with all legislators on the House and Senate health committees with assignments. Please prioritize getting a brief meeting with your assigned legislator BEFORE setting up any other meetings for the day. The goal is to have 100% coverage for all members of the health committees. Please let me know as early as possible if you are unable to schedule a meeting with your assigned legislators so that I may find a replacement, if possible. The assigned legislators may or may not have districts where your health center(s) are located, but your health center is the closest on a map to their district and you may have patients that are constituents. If you are not assigned to a specific legislator, you will set up meetings with your local Representative(s) and Senator(s).

Legislator Assignments

IPHCA recommends knowing what bills your legislators are authoring and what committees they serve on and see tailor your message to appeal to their causes or concerns. You can find your legislators by entering an address here or you can also select their name from the drop down box on that page as well.
