Community Health Centers (CHCs):
Addressing Indiana's Access Problem

Photo
For more than 40 years, Community Health Centers (CHCs) have been an integral part of the solution to America's problem of health care access.  CHCs provide much-needed primary care and related services to anyone, regardless of ability to pay.  The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) found CHCs to be the most successful program in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Each year, CHCs provide crucial health services to 16 million people across the US.  They provide care of proven high quality, at a cost 41% lower compared to other settings. CHCs save the health system billions of dollars annually and generate billions more in economic benefits for local communities.

In Indiana, CHCs provide care to more than 330,000 patients annually, including more than 13% of the state's uninsured and nearly 15% of Hoosier Medicaid patients – saving Indiana millions of dollars yearly and generating $135 million + in local economic benefits.

To view a major study on CHCs' impact by the Robert Graham Center for Policy Studies in Family Medicine and Health Care and the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), click here.
