ArchivesIndiana Ranked Next to Last in Public Health Spending
A new study by the Trust for America's Health, a nonprofit organization working to protect and enhance the health of US communities, ranks Indiana 49th - better than only Kansas - in spending for public health. The study, Shortchanging America's Health 2008: A State-by-State Look at How Federal Public Health Dollars are Spent, analyzes key state health statistics and public health funding levels. The study makes clear that Indiana is not receiving the federal grant funds that could be flowing into the state to improve public health. As important, Indiana also ranks 49th of 50 states in the amount of its own money spent on public health. But while the numbers are not good, state health policy makers are working to improve both public health funding and the overall health of Hoosiers. To access the full study, click here. |
