A
new study entitled Access Denied finds that 56 million Americans
– nearly one out of every five – are "medically disenfranchised". In
Indiana, this means that 9.3% of the population lacks a health care home
to meet acute and chronic health care needs.
Equally disturbing is the finding that most people living in medically disenfranchised
areas have health insurance. Coupling this with the fact that middle-income
workers are the fastest growing group of uninsured Americans creates a startling
picture of a looming health care crisis.
The study was a joint project of the Robert Graham Center for Policy
Studies in Family Medicine and Health Care, and the National
Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). To view the study, click
